Amy Balfour grew up in Northridge California in the San Fernando Valley. She was educated at UCSB’s Film Studies Department, and today she has settled in Los Angeles. Amy didn’t always know she wanted to be a writer, but she has always enjoyed storytelling and making people laugh. During high school at Oakwood School in N. Hollywood, Amy focused on academic writing and creative fiction. During College, Amy explored screenwriting, and she was awarded the 2000 Paul N. and Eleanor T. Lazarus Scholarship for potential in the field of screenwriting. This award became a major part of Amy’s decision to turn her love of writing into a career. Amy has always said that she will write fortune cookies if someone will pay her to do it. In other words, for Amy, the love of writing is more important that the kind of project. She looks forward to any chance to have her voice heard by a larger audience. Today, sketch comedy writing classes at the Groundlings and Grad School classes at USC take up much of Amy’s extra time. Eventually though, Amy hopes to make a career of writing humor books and freelancing. But, Amy will always be happy as long as she is writing.
